# Multi-Currency AR Adjustments

> Adjust on-hold AR debit postings in their own currency, with a Foreign amount field and the original posting's exchange factor.

Adjust on-hold AR debit postings in the posting's own currency instead of the base currency.

### **Business Value**

* Adjust foreign-currency AR postings without converting by hand.
* Applies the original posting's exchange factor, keeping history consistent.
* Shows base and foreign amounts together on every adjustment.
* Blocks adjustments that exceed the original posting amount.
* Prevents zero-value adjustments being saved.

### **Use Cases**

* Accountant reduces a USD on-hold posting by 200 USD and the base amount follows automatically.
* Credit controller corrects a foreign-currency charge without recalculating the rate.
* Finance manager reviews an adjustment and sees the exchange factor that was applied.

### **How It Works**

| **Where:** Back Office → on-hold debit postings (AR related) |
| ------------------------------------------------------------ |

| **Note:** These behaviours apply only where multi-currency AR is enabled. See [Multi-Currency Accounts Receivable](/back-office/accounts-receivable/multi-currency-accounts-receivable) for how an AR account gets its default currency. |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Each AR posting is adjusted in the currency of its **AR main posting**, which is used as the adjustment's default currency. The conversion always uses the **original posting's exchange factor**, not today's rate, so an adjustment can never be distorted by a later rate change.

#### **The Two New Fields**

| **Field** | Behaviour |
| ------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Foreign amount** | Read-only when the currency is the base currency. Editable when the currency is a foreign currency — and in that case the **Amount** field becomes read-only instead. |
| **Exchange factor** | Always read-only. Shows the exchange rate used for the conversion, based on the selected posting currency. |

In other words, you type the figure in whichever currency the posting is actually held in, and the system fills in the other side.

#### **Validations**

Two rules are enforced when you save an adjustment:

* The adjustment cannot exceed the original posting's amount — *"The adjustment amount can't exceed the original posting's amount."*
* The adjustment cannot be zero — *"The adjustment amount can't be zero."*
