Derived Rates is a feature that links rates together in a parent/child relationship where updating the base rate would affect all rates under it’s umbrella. Why? Imagine having 10 rate codes derived from your Base/Rack Rate with discount and supplement rules to accommodate your needs, having Derived Rates will spare you the hassle of updating 11 rate codes and you will only need to update your Rack Rate and the settings will take care of the rest.
