Derived Rates - Kwentra Help Center

Derived Rates is a feature that links rates together in a parent/child relationship where updating the base rate would affect all rates under it’s umbrella. Why? Imagine having 10 rate codes derived from your Base/Rack Rate with discount and supplement rules to accommodate your needs, having Derived Rates will spare you the hassle of updating 11 rate codes and you will only need to update your Rack Rate and the settings will take care of the rest. How?

To derive a new rate code for an existing rate code:

Front Office → Settings Gear Sign → Front Office → Rates → Rate Definitions → Select Rate → Derive N.B: In the below screenshot you can see that this rate code is the base rate for 5 different rate codes, this means that when updating this rate code all rate codes appearing here will be updated accordingly.

When clicking on Derive you would go to the screen to define the new Rate Code, mandatory fields are written in bold:

Code: New Rate Code.
Description: New Rate Code’s description.
Discount %: If you would like the new derived rate code to be discounted with a certain percentage; insert the discount percentage here, only numbers.
Supplement %: if you would like the new derived rate code to be more than the base rate with a certain percentage; insert the supplement percentage here only in numbers.
Currency Conversion: only to be used when the new derived rate’s currency will be different than the base rate’s currency.

Note: The “Per pax amounts” fields (Per Room Amount, Per Adult Amount, Child Range 1–3, Increase / decrease) on this screen are for Rate Relations room-type configuration, not for deriving a rate code. See Derived Rates vs. Rate Relations below.

Link two existing rates together in a parent/child relationship:

Front Office → Settings Gear Sign → Front Office → Rates → Derived Rates

Select your base rate under the Main rate column.
Select the derived rate from the Derived rate drop-down.
Enter Discount % or Supplement % (use one, not both) in numbers.
If the main and derived rate use different currencies, select the Currency conversion.
Click Save.

Note: For deriving one rate code from another, only Discount % / Supplement % (and Currency conversion) apply. Leave the “Per pax amounts” columns — Per Room Amount, Per Adult Amount, Child Range 1–3, Increase / decrease — empty here; those belong to Rate Relations room-type configuration. See Derived Rates vs. Rate Relations below.

Derived Rates vs. Rate Relations

Both features link rates so you update one place instead of many, but they work on different things:

They are complementary and often used together: Rate Relations builds the room-type and occupancy grid for a rate, and Derived Rates copies that whole rate to other rate plans. To configure the room-type side, see Rate Relations: Base & Derived Room Type Configuration.
